They came from Fairfield County, Connecticut and are members of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin – the association that brings together from around the world more than 12,000 lovers of Burgundy’s wines. Tracy Lavery, Peter Samponaro, Bill Lawrence, David Albright, Roger Gesswein and David Webber were in Burgundy last week.
On April 18, 2015, during a gala dinner at the Château du Clos de Vougeot, they presented Aubert de Villaine – co-owner and director of the Domaine Romanée Conti and President of the World Heritage Site bid – with 2,197 signatures of support from the USA, Canada and Australia.
This mobilization of international support comes at a key moment in the candidature project and demonstrates the global character of the World Heritage Site dossier. These signatures are a welcome addition to the 63,000 and a positive omen just weeks before UNESCO’s decision, scheduled for mid-July.
