Since 1934

Georges Faiveley & Camille Rodier

Two dynamic young Burgundians from Nuits-Saint-Georges, Georges Faiveley and Camille Rodier, got together with friends for some seriously bold thinking, in the propitious setting of a wine cellar.

"Wines of a quality such as ours are a cause for joy and optimism. So enough moaning! Since our cellars are full to the brim, let's empty them - and we can invite our friends to help us! We'll revive the old Bacchic confraternities and ward off the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune with liberal doses of Rabelaisian exuberance and Molière's comic good-sense".

On January 11th 2019, an Extraordinary General Assembly unanimously voted for the creation of a Conseil des Sages composed of former members of the Grand Conseil as well as members of the Compagnie d'Honneur.

The functioning of the Confrérie

The Château du Clos de Vougeot

The seal of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du TastevinBack in the 12th century, as well as founding the Clos de Vougeot, the Cistercians began the tradition of Chapitres Généraux: conventions held in different countries to promote peace and understanding among the Order's sister houses. In 1939, inspired by their example, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin established its first international Commanderie in the United States. Today, there are Commanderies on all five continents and almost seventy-five sous-commanderies worldwide - so many local sub-branches where the Chevaliers du Tastevin meet regularly to celebrate the great wines of Burgundy.

The Tastevin ethos

"Only he is good who seeks to be better"

Since 1934, the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin has set itself the mission of promoting all things Burgundian, in particular its great wines and traditional cuisine but also the survival -and revival - of the region's feasts, festivals, customs and folklore as well as the development of tourism in Burgundy.

A key player in all the region's important events, the Confrérie was instrumental in creating the Saint Vincent Tournante travelling wine festival and in the restoration of the Château du Clos de Vougeot. Members of the Confrérie get the opportunity to come together at the sixteen Chapitres held each year.

With 12,000 Chevaliers around the world, the Confrérie is committed to defending the reputation of Burgundy - and burgundy - in a spirit of Grand Cru conviviality.

The Saint-Vincent tournante

The wine-festival that has become a regional institution

And so in 1938, the Saint Vincent Tournante was created, a wine festival celebrated each year in a different winegrowing village and a clear demonstration of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin's commitment to defending with equal ardour all Burgundy's wines without exception.
