WINE AUCTION OF THE HOSPICES DE BEAUNE 2009
799 barrels of wine, each containing 300 bottles, were sold at auction on the 15th November. Thanks to the high quality of the vintage, the average price of a barrel was 20.38% higher than in 2008.
This difference was entirely due to the higher prices paid for the red wines, which on average went up by 31.12% for the 654 barrels sold. The price of the white wines, on the other hand, fell by 2.82% for the 145 barrels sold. The average price per barrel rose to 6,255 euros in 2009, contributing a grand total of 5 million euros to the receipts of Beaune’s municipal hospital.
The Presidents’ Barrel was acquired by a syndicate of nine wine-merchants for the sum of 81,000 euros.
Once again, Burgundy gave a concrete demonstration of its generosity.
